About the PerfecPunch & Stand™
The PerfecPunch & Stand has been granted 8 USA & International patents. It was designed by Dr. Rod Kurthy because he was frustrated with the existing cigar punches and stands on the market. Being a research & development scientist and dentist with a background in mechanical engineering, he believed he could create something truly unique and exceptionally functional, unlike any punch ever created.
Creating the perfect punch blades took four years of constant development by Rod to fully accomplish his lofty goals of punch blades that have razor blade-like sharpness, a wall thickness as thin as only two sheets of standard copy paper, an edge sharpness angle of only 18° compared to the average of 40° of common punch blades, and an extreme metal hardness to maintain the exceptional sharpness even after a couple decades of daily use. And possibly most importantly, there is no sharpening bevel on the outside rim of the blades – therefore zero outward force to crack your cigar cap on the head of your cigar!
440C stainless steel is considered by many to be the premier metal for most types of blades. Hardness and corrosion resistance are the main keys to wear resistance, which means keeping that edge impeccably sharp over many years of daily use.
There are over 150 different grades of stainless steel, and heat-hardened 440C is the hardest of them all. But good things are always accompanied by bad things. When heat hardened to the maximum amount, it is nearly impossible to machine and sharpen fully hardened 440C stainless steel. That means higher cost of the metal, and far higher manufacturing costs. But it is definitely worth the cost and effort!
These higher manufacturing costs are the reason that few cigar punch manufacturers use 440C, and those that do often do not heat harden the 440C to the maximum Rockwell C Hardness (HRC) of 60. The higher the heat hardening, the more difficulty and cost of manufacturing.
The PerfecPunch & Stand stand blades not only utilize 440C stainless steel, but we have heat hardened the steel to the maximum of HRC 60, which was confirmed by an independent metal testing laboratory in California.
The thinner the blade, the more easily and effortlessly it will virtually glide into your cigar. This means the least possible trauma to the cap on the head of your cigar.
The PerfecPunch blades have a wall thickness of only 0.0075”. That’s the same thickness of only two sheets of regular copy paper. Average punch blades are 3-4 times thicker. In fact, we believe PerfecPunch blades may be the thinnest 440C punch blades in the world.
Like chef’s knives, typical punch blades are sharpened with a bevel on each side of the blade. These bevels average 20°, which means the overall sharpened edge is 40°.
PerfecPunch blades are sharpened ONLY on the inner side of the edge of the blades. This bevel, like a razor-sharp sushi knife, is only 18°. There is no bevel on the outer side. This results in an exceptionally sharp blade with an edge of only 18° instead of the normal 40° edge.

Sharpening cylindrical punch blades only on the inner side is far more difficult during manufacturing. But again, it is well worth the effort and cost.
Average thicker blades with the main sharpening bevel on the outer rim have potential to crack the cap on the head of your cigar. After the sharp edge cuts through the head of your cigar, as the punch goes in more deeply, that outer bevel pushes outward on the cigar cap, sometimes causing the cap to crack like you see below. PerfecPunch blades have no sharpening bevel on the outer side of the rim, so there is zero outward pressure on your cigar cap, and nearly zero potential to crack the cap of the cigar.
The result when using the PerfecPunch is a precise, laser-like punch cut with exactly the ideal diameter for the particular cigar you are smoking; zero damage to the cap and wrapper of your cigar; and the relaxed, comfortable feel of the smooth, rounded shoulder around the head of your cigar.
If you smoke with friends, sharing one ashtray in the middle of the table; and if you’ve never tried a cigar stand… you just don’t know what you’re missing. They’re addicting!
Instead of reaching to that ashtray every time you want to set your cigar down, having a great, stable stand right in front of you is so much more relaxing.
Pedestal stands average 1 1⁄2” tall, are often heavy to carry, and the length of the cigar cradle, as well as the base, averages only 1 1⁄8”, which can make them a little unstable, especially when sitting on an irregular surface.
An “X-Stand” is even taller, averaging 2 1⁄8” high, with a cradle length of about 1 9⁄16” long. The feet of an X-stand are often a tripod. The height and tripod design make these stands even more unstable.
The PerfecPunch & Stand has a low center of gravity at only 5⁄8” tall, and a long 2 3⁄16” cradle to hold even the longest cigars. Add the completely flat bottom, and you have a very stable stand that will not tip over, even on irregular surfaces, and will hold even very long cigars.
The PerfecPunch & Stand even has Finger Cutouts to make picking up a small ring cigar after you’ve smoked it down very easy.
Sharpest punch I've ever used...love it!
I have used my Cuban Crafters cutter almost exclusively for the past 9 years. I had tried punch cutters before with mixed results and in the end always went back to my go to. I heard about this cutter from Katman and I am a happy owner of the Perfect Draw tool so I said "why not?" The first thing I noticed is the heft and solid feel of this cutter. It feels very solid and has some nice weight to it. The stand feature is nice if I'm at a friends house or somewhere without an ashtray. But the thing that might unseat my current cutter is how well this punch cutter works compared to others. It really does give a neat punch and doesn't mangle the cigar. The size options is also a nice touch as well. Anybody who uses a punch cutter I would recommend this and even those who might be looking for a different way to enjoy their cigar, this is a good product.
Excellent quality and fast shipping.
I really love my Perfec Punch and cigar rest. I use it daily without fail and going back to traditional punches with the bevel on the outside is no longer an option for me. I mainly use the 11mm (middle) punch for my 52 - 54 ring gauge cigars and there's never a damaged or unraveling cap due to the punch. The only issue I'm experiencing after punching several hundred cigars is that like any man-made cutting edge, it's finally becoming a bit dull leading to using increased pressure and a few more seconds to achieve separation of the punched plug from the cap. Very soon though I'll simply order another Perfec Punch and start anew. Trust me... you'll never find another punch that can achieve the efficiency and quality of this truly miraculously cigar accessory.
This punch is everything as advertised. It doesn’t crack the crown, super sharp punch does a perfect job of cutting.
